Results Groups discussed the working plan for 2017 within the UN Partnership Framework for Development for 2016-2020.

Ashgabat. 19 April 2017 – Members of five joint Results Groups formed under Turkmenistan-United Nations Partnership Framework for Development 2016-2020 (PFD), have finalised the discussion of the Monitoring and Evaluation Plans (M&E Plan) and developed a Monitoring and Evaluation Calendars up to 2020 during the first round of meetings from April 4-18, 2017.

The experts from line ministries and UN discussed missing information on indictors for measuring progress on PFD and finalisation of M&E Plans. The unified M&E calendar till 2020 was discussed and developed.

It was agreed the next Result Group meetings will be held in the second half of the current year to report on the progress for the year 2016 and a half of 2017. Following the results of the second meeting, a Country Results Report will be prepared.

In addition, at the end of the year a meeting of the National Steering and Coordinating Committee at the level of deputy ministers is planned, where the main changes in the PFD indicators and progress reports will be presented.

The participants of the group were informed on the upcoming M & E capacity building mission planned for November 2017. This workshop will focus on capacity building in the development of indicators and interim results.

    UN and Partners Hold Roundtable on Implementation of the Law on Ombudsman

    Ashgabat, 11 May 2017: The Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) held a roundtable discussion on implementing the ‘Law on the Ombudsman’. Following the election of Ms Yazdursun Gurbannazarova as the first Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan in March 2017, the roundtable provided for a venue to discuss international best practices and guiding principles for establishing Turkmenistan’s Office of the Ombudsperson. The Office represents the country’s first National Human Rights Institution and is mandated with the protection and promotion of human rights in Turkmenistan.

    Ashgabat, 10 Мay 2017 –Together with Government of Turkmenistan, UNICEF continues to invest in strengthening the support system for families with children with disabilities. A national team of Early Child Development Specialists from the Education and Health sectors, and Representatives of the Non-Governmental Organizations were exposed to intensive training on early intervention services. The experts were from the Saint-Petersburg Early Interventions Institute, which is a non-government educational organization offering top-notch expertise in the area of early intervention both in Russia and internationally.

    Ashgabat, 3-4 May 2017: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Government of Turkmenistan held an international conference on the topic “Improving energy efficiency in residential building sector of Turkmenistan” took place on the occasion of completing the project in the field of energy efficiency in Turkmenistan. National partner of the project state concern “Turkmengaz”. The conference took place with participation of 75 representatives of international and national organizations, experts, partners, donors from seven countries of Central Asia, Europe and North America.

The Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations discussed further steps in establishing the Training and Methodology Center on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Turkmenistan which aims to train and strengthen the capacity of teachers of middle and high schools in promoting the SDG Agenda among youth.
