Ashgabat, 1 September 2017: The unveiling of a new Training and Methodology Centre for Sustainable Development Goals took place at the Institute of International Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this afternoon. In a joint project between the UN and Government of Turkmenistan, the centre was set up with the goal of educating young people on the vital importance of SDGs. Ms. Shaheen Nilofer, Head of UNICEF in Turkmenistan, launched the centre on behalf of all UN agencies.
August 22-25, 2017 UNODC POTKM arranged four-day training on Personal Growth for staff and volunteers. Conducted by invited trainer, Mr. Tahir Garipov, the training included four sessions and was aimed at capacity building, skills development and motivation of attendees.
Regular 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly is to start work in a few weeks. According to the tradition on occasion of this important event of international life, Turkmenistan will promulgate Priority Positions, which our country will carry out and uphold during coming political season. Such openness and willingness to joint solution of urgent problems of modern world’s development, which became distinguishing feature of Turkmen diplomacy, are highly appreciated in international communities and indicate growing authority of our neutral state as a reliable member of the United Nations.
Ashgabat. August 15, 2017. United Nations personnel were brought up-to-date about their health rights and given information resources related to the dangers of HIV. HIV is having a serious impact worldwide. Absences, illnesses and deaths due to HIV and AIDS have profound implications for staff, their families, and for the UN. At a detailed briefing session, the UN Country Team Health group discussed the effectiveness of the UN Cares workplace programme in reducing exposure to HIV.
09 - 11 August, 2017. Ashgabat. A three-day seminar has taken place discussing in detail the progressive role Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have had in Turkmenistan. UN Country Team offered its staff an opportunity to increase their knowledge of the Agenda 2030, to learn about UNCT work on SDGs and familiarize with the progress on Agenda 2030 in Turkmenistan. The staff was also encouraged to understand how to live more sustainably, by changing consumption patterns, using active transport and buying local foods.
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan – UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund continues support to the Government of Turkmenistan on integrating the relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on needs and rights of women and young people into the national development programmes and strategies. Government partners gathered at a roundtable to discuss the methodology of SDGs data collection and analysis in the area of reproductive health, gender equality, youth development and data. The meeting was co-led by UNFPA and the State Statistics Committee (SSC) of Turkmenistan.
